*your own writing

How will your classroom look differently daily? Weekly? Monthly?

Discuss the process of creating your demo and what you discovered through that process. How will you incorporate your demo in the fall?

What kinds of student writing samples can you collect?

How has your writing project experience affected your plan?

How will you use other demonstrations? Please list several demos that you saw that you will integrate into your classroom.

What is your plan for your own writing? How has your own writing progressed? Describe your writing process and productivity during this institute (as related to freewriting, reformulation, journaling, revisiting pieces, etc.).

Ok, after listening to Keri drone on about where do we go from here, I found myself wanting to do it all, which is quite frustrating because time constraints and inexperience prevent me from doing all I want to do. Rather than focusing on all of the frustrating things, I have decided to address one thing that I would very much like to do. I would love to do a demonstration/presentation at the Write to Learn Conference. I would love to show how easy it is to integrate video into a writing classroom. The problem is I do not have any demonstrable results outside one video that my creative writing class did last year. In addition, I have not done a tremendous amount of research. I will collect demonstrable artifacts this year as I have a senior English course create a multigenre project. As far as research goes, I just received my copy of Romano's Blending Genre, Altering Style. I will get the research done! It may take a while. After taking next week off, I am beginning my master's thesis. I have made a committment to get it done this summer. The action research aspect of my project is done. All I need now is to do the lit review, which is in the beginning stages and write the damned thing. THEN I will start researching to present at a conference. Believe it or not people, I have been published in an academic journal AND presented a paper at a conference. I said that to say this, "I DON"T MIND RESEARCH." I may whine about it, but I sure as hell can do it, and do it well! Oops, my voice is coming out in my writing. Must stop now! Oh yea, I will miss seeing everyone and I look forward to the retreats!

Keri and Casey, First, thank you for being such wonderful and supportive facilitators. You both have made these three weeks much more doable.

Now, down to the nitty gritty. So many new strategies to take into my class. Journaling as either Okonkwo or his first wife in Things Fall Apart or as Elijah in Dawn comes to mind.

I like the reformulation revision concept, especially coupled with either an introduction or conclution, especially when coupled with Michael's spicing up an intro.

I also like the idea of beginning the first day of class with the "phrase poem." My kids all know each other, but what a great way to maybe get them to see their classmates a little differently and think about how they use language.

I am seriously considering the NCTE Conference and knew the dates but had not looked closely enough at the schedule to know about the Thurs. NWP. More incentive.

I would be interested in participating in a SWG. Not sure that electronic is the one for me. I would probably be less likely to compose, for whatever reason, since I already compose on computer. Maybe it is reading the monitor.

I also volunteer to "advise" with you, Keri, if you need someone. Also, I really like teaching source-supported writing, so could assist with or set up a demo for that. As well as the portfolio, which I have required for years from my students and every year tell myself--never again. But . . .

I forgot to tell Keri, if you need me for anything at all, don't hesitate to ask.

Larry...I think you've got the right idea about really focusing in on and trying to accomplishing something you really want to accomplish professionally. And we all know you love your research!! :) I'm so glad you were a good sport.

Susan...you have some good ideas that quickly came to your mind. I hope you have the opportunity to implement them.

We have a lot of people who want to be involved with a SWG...we really need to make sure that happens.
