Youth Camp for Summer

Hi All,

In response to the email that I sent, and just in case I missed someone on the mailing list, here is the information about BEAR CAMP offered by MSU this summer.

Missouri State is once again offering Bear Camp for K-9 students this summer and is looking for quality instructors like the OWP fellows.

FREEDOM…you pick the topic of the class. Bear Camp is looking for “Innovative, interesting and educational programs.”

FLEXIBLE…you pick the times, and you pick the weeks. 9:15-11:00 or 12:30 to 2:15. There are several different weeks to choose from. You pick the grade level as well.

MONEY…$200.00 for teaching one class for a week, $400.00 for teaching two classes for a week.

DEADLINE…Febrary 15th.

Art and Writing

As I tooled around on the internet looking for neat ideas, I came across two items which link to Shelly's demo, but also open up a wide range of possibilities of using art within the writing classroom.

I imagine there are many more resources out there, and many that might have better ideas, but in the time I spent searching, the Getty Museum had some neat stuff.

Peace in the Middle East

Along the Same Vein as Thomas' Presentation

http://pathways.thinkport.org/following/ this link provides the story of a girl who must decide whether to stay with her brother or try to escape slavery with her sister. It reminded me of Thomas' presentation. Through a series of several slides, the student is told of various events that could influence his or her decision. At the conclusion the student could write a letter to the brother or sister explaining why the student chose to stay or go. It's not a real journal, but it is accompanied by hymnals and audio.
